ACTION IEC - COMPANY PROFILE
ACTION IEC is a Cambodian NGO. The name stands for the Art of eduCaTION and comprises the IEC acronym for Information Education Communication. The organization is run entirely by Cambodian Staffs who are artists for the most part. For the last decade, the organization has been implementing behavior change communications strategies. The organization follows the administrative policies of large international agencies and has been acredited with offical audits.
While most staff of Action IEC emanate from the TV production sector, the organization has also developed very acute media research unit, a publications unit, a radio / TV unit and an innovative media production unit that implements mobile shows in rural areas. These four divisions enable the NGO to provide its funders with a large range of media services ranging from the design of media campaigns, the actual production but also the evaluation of media campaigns.
ACTION IEC has been producing educational materials in a wide variety of development sectors, but specializes in media for health education (HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria...) and on projects that have a true impact on the lives of the audiences targeted. Action IEC has, over the last decade, been entrusted by most major development organizations in Cambodia to provide these services.
Action IEC has been the corner-stone of many national campaigns (Census 1998, Safe Motherhood, Safe Water, TB, HIV/AIDS) and continues to play a primary role in today’s media for development in the country. Action IEC has produced the country’s first feature fiction films (97), the first soap operas (‘Family’ in 99) and has been entrusted to lead a wide range of National education campaigns (i.e.: on HIV/AIDS since 1999). Its founding Members have had major positions in recent news-media ‘revolutions’ (Equity News 2003) and currently Equity Weekly. In its short lifespan, Action IEC has helped in the capacity building of the nation, by providing new and innovative product ideas and formats. It has brought to the fore ideas that were not existing before and that are now widely used by a number of NGOs and IOs.
